India Journalist Visa

If you’re a professional journalist or photographer, you should apply for a Journalist visa. The main benefit of a Journalist visa is if you want access to a particular region or person. A Journalist visa is issued for three months. However, these visas can be notoriously difficult to get, so only apply if you really need to.

A ‘JOURNALIST VISA’ will be granted to:

  • Cameraman
  • Journalist
  • Media Person
  • News Broadcaster
  • Press
  • Publisher
  • Reporter
  • TV Producer
  • Writer
  • Columnist, cartoonist/editor
  • Photographer
  • Film producer or director (other than commercial films)
  • A representative of a radio or television organization
  • Travel writer
  • Travel promotion photographer
  • Any professional journalist/owner working for an association or a company engaged in the production or broadcast of audio visual news or current affairs programmes through the print, electronic or any other electronic form or any other mode of mass communication.

One will be issued a ‘J’ Visa – with an endorsement – FOR TOURISM ONLY, NOT VALID FOR PROFESSIONAL WORK/REPORTING when a Journalist visits India for Tourism purpose.

Spouse and dependent family members accompanying the applicant must apply for a ‘Journalist Visa (NOT Tourist or Entry visa), co-terminus with the period of the principal visa holder.

Journalists / Intern journalists who intend to travel to India to work in Indian media organizations should apply for an Employment Visa.

Applicants of full time courses in journalism in educational institutes/universities recognized by Government of India should apply for student visa.

Duration & Validity

A Journalist Visa is usually issued for 3 months, Single Entry

5 years & 10 years Journalist Visas are available only to US Citizens under a bilateral agreement.

Validity of a Journalist Visa commences from the date of visa issuance and NOT from the date of entry into India.

It is advisable to apply for your visa at least 15 days before your intended date of travel.

Documents required for india journalist visa application

  • Application form * 1
  • Colour photo * 1 (3,5 x 4,5 cms)
  • Original passport
  • Copy of return ticket or reservation
  • Letter from the company where applicant is employed with the detailed information regarding the visit to India; letter must be addressed to the Embassy of India, Warsaw
  • A seperate letter addressed to the Embassy of India, Warsaw with the information of the kind of equipment and number of units to be used in India along with their value in USD
  • In case of co-operation with Indian company or partner, letter from Indian partner is required with the detailed information of the visit along with the undertaking of all the responsibilities of the foreign nationals

NOTE: Embassy of India, Warsaw may ask applicant to provide some other documents related to activity or program
