India Transit Visa

Visitors staying in India for less than 72 hours can obtain a Transit visa. Otherwise a Tourist visa is required. A confirmed airline booking for the onward journey must be shown when applying for the visa.

Duration & Validity

The duration of stay during each visit by foreign nationals passing through India should not exceed 3 days.
The Transit Visa is valid for entry within 15 days from the date of issue.
It can be a single entry or a double entry depending on the requirement of the applicant.

Validity of Transit Visa commences from the date of visa issuance and NOT from the date of entry into India.

Visa Extension

A Transit Visa is not extendable. For a stay in India beyond 3 days, an appropriate visa should be obtained. This visa is not valid for tourism purpose.

Documents required for transit visa application

  • Application form * 1
  • Colour photo * 1 ( 3,5 x 4,5 cms)
  • Original passport
  • Copy of tickets to India and onward journey
  • Copy of SEAMAN’S BOOK (in case of seamen)
  • Letter from the company where the applicant is employed with the reason of requesting for a Transit Visa. Letter must be signed and duly stamped by an authorised person (in case of seamen)
  • Letter from the Indian agent with the complete information regarding the visit to India for a transit purpose. Letter MUST be signed, duly stamped and addressed to the Embassy of India, Warsaw (in case of seamen)
